Pastor Kenneth Glasgow's life is one of redemption. He currently serves as the Executive Director for The Ordinary People's Society (also known as TOPS). TOPS is a faith-based organization that bridges the gap between the have and have-nots.
Pastor Glasgow's direction of TOPS provides rehabilitation to repeat offenders while creating a program that target the youth before they reach the Criminal Justice System. Since his own release from the criminal justice system, Pastor Glasgow has remained committed to saving souls and ensuring that redemption is in the lives of those who have served their debts to society.
He has been instrumental in registering of over 30,000 ex-felons to vote in the state of Alabama, in fact, just this past year Pastor Glasgow and his team were able to register people to vote in 10 Alabama jails and 10 prisons.
Meanwhile, he has fed over 280,000 people in the past five years with Momma Tina's Mission House.
His abilities to work for criminal justice reform were highlighted in his strategic work in the passage of the Sentencing Guidelines through the Alabama State Legislature in 2006. In addition, Pastor Glasgow has gained the support of the Alabama Department of Corrections by allowing him to administer TOPS programs in Alabama prisons and jails known as the Prodigal Child Project ( which he's the Executive Director of also ), Convener/Co-Convener of the National Criminal Justice Coalition, Southern Regional Dir. for The National Exodus Council, State Partner for the New Bottom Line Campaign ( which addresses prison reform, drug policy reform, sentencing reform, and voting rights ), Southern Region Representative for the Millions More Movement Criminal Justice Committee, and Vice Chairman of Houston County A.D.C. He was just featured in the New York Times for his outstanding work in Alabama
regaining ex- felons voting rights.
He's received numerous awards and endorsements including the Man of the Year in Dothan Ala. 2004-2005, The Fighter of the Flame award at the 2008 Bridge Crossing Jubilee, Selma Ala., and The Lyndon B. Johnson Political Freedom Award at the Alabama Democratic Convention 2008. Pastor Glasgow also won a settlement with the state of Alabama to allow felons to vote from jails and prison under the Moral Turpetude Act.
Since his redemption he has also obtained two Doctrines.
One in Divinity at Bethany College and one in Theology at A.P. Clay Bible College of Theology.
He's also a Certified Paralegal with Equal Justice Initiative.
If Rev. Glasgow sounds as though he is thoroughly active in faith,
politics and social justice issues, you may be pleased to know his brother is a different type of activist, the Rev. Al Sharpton.

I Just Want To Preach!
November 9, 2010 12:40 pm | Comments Off

As I sit here and cry after reading all the negative comments about me and others, I can't help but cry. People are so judgmental without having the facts and knowing the full story. This election divided a lot of people. Some of those whom I've considered friends for years seemed to have disappointed me. I realized that some of those who acted like they were supportive really showed their true colors. Controversial issues have a tendency to reveal and expose those who...
THE LOVE OF MONEY
November 8, 2010 1:26 pm | Comments Off

Everything that glitters isn't gold and everything that sparkles isn't diamonds. All money isn't good money they say. My feelings on this are the love of money is the root of all evil. These days many people are willing to sell their souls and morals just for the love of money and so-called happiness. If you have no self-respect for yourself and others all the money in the world doesn't matter. My opinion on this is, granted money does make...
A TRAPPED MIND
November 8, 2010 1:13 pm | Comments Off

My innocence is gone, never to return again. I have been beaten and broken down but still not defeated. My heart is cold to the world and all of the men in it. They don't love me they just love my body and how I can please them not the real me. Hate courses through my blood and my mind. Why did you leave me? Why did you hurt me? Trapped inside my own thoughts, do I tell or don't tell? ...
Time For Change

As I sit here and literally cry and Pray. It really concerns me that we take our right to vote for granted. It's kind of ironic that we all felt the pressure of not being able to vote when we experienced that right being taken away from us. Concerning the gaming issue. However; the opportunity has come now that we can truly make a change. I have a lot of questions to ask some of the candidates that remain a...
A SECOND CHANCE FOR ALL

A Second Chance for All The 45,000 inmates in Alabama prisons cost citizens $400 million. Courts and communities are working with the Houston County Corrections personnel and former offenders to become stable and active citizens. Most persons in correction systems return to society. It is a fact that communities cannot ignore. If reintegration programs fail individuals, economies fail as well. Most barriers relate to employment. Los Angeles County, for example, has more ex-offenders looking for work than any other county...
T.O.P.S. President Named State Chaplin

FROM PEW TO PRISON Pastor Kenneth Glasgow, Founder and President of The Ordinary People Society (TOPS) was recently certified at Alabama’s highest level (Level 3) as State Chaplain. He and TOPS become the first and only faith-based organization in the area to receive this distinction. He now officially serves as Chaplain at any Alabama Department of Corrections facility. The United States Courts have mandated that incarcerated persons have freedom of religion as protected by the First Amendment of the US...
Mosque Controversy
September 24, 2010 3:17 pm | Comments Off

I know it’s never a good idea to fight crazy with crazy, but I can’t resist this time… So I think we should throw out the Constitution while we’re bickering about this Mosque-thing because it is obvious that people that wrote or agree with anti-Mosque positions, have not read, or understand, or believe in the principles that are the foundation of our country. Standing up for America's founding principles (i.e., Freedom of Religion) shows strength, not weakness. We have a...
A Glimmer of Hope!

We witnessed Justice at it's best yesterday. As I sat in the trial of James Frazier and Kamal Russaw I saw the act of God and forgiveness truly come forth. James Frazier was the victim of a shooting that took place and he felt the need to forgive whoever it was, and move on with his life. He told Judge Larry Anderson that he didn't want to be there and did not want to pursue the issue. Judge Anderson asked...
Thank God For Our Local Disciples
September 18, 2010 3:00 pm | Comments Off

For the last 9 years we at The Ordinary People Society ( T.O.P.S.) have been serving this community with our services. We have been very effective in our ministry concentrating on four major areas. The Prodigal Child Project for people with felony convictions, Youth Programs, The Empowerment Center, and Feeding the Hungry and Homeless. Today we discuss the feeding program ( Moma Tina's Mission House ). We were the first organization to address the homeless problem in Dothan which ruffled a lot of feathers. So we took local media,...
What are we going to do?

We changed the guard in 2008 and now we must guard the change! This is the statement that came to me by brother Thomas Hawthorne today. It made me look at our local conditions. On the one hand we have the City of Dothan working to adjust many things that obviously needed adjusting. You can look around the city and see a lot of things going on that shows progress. Different businesses going up on several different sides of town....
L.A. Chicken

Went to eat at L.A. Chicken today and I must admit that the atmosphere was very cozy and comforable. I met a few others there enjoying their meal as well. If you really want to try something then the smoked sausage is the thing to choose. I had the chicken ( Preacher thing LOL ) and it was good to the bone. You get to choose the side and it was very affordable. I called my family and a few...
A True Christian
September 18, 2010 12:33 pm | Comments Off

While sitting here reading some of the comments and responses to our articles, it's amazing to me how people are so quick to say what kind of Pastor would do this or if he/she was a Christian they wouldn't say anything but be humble. My question is? have they ever really read the Bible? How Jesus addressed the Council and Leaders of His time. As a matter of fact, all the Prophets in the Bible addressed Leadership of their time...
HELP

We've been getting a lot of complaints about Staph Infection at the County Jail. Along with all the complaints about the visiting from family members. Today I was confronted by a well known attorney here in Dothan who discussed the problems he's been having in getting in and out to see his clients. Somebody please help me understand what's going on with all these issues and with our County Jail. I'm going to ask all of you who have had problems,...
Unity Has Come!

I must say that I'm very pleased with the turn out for the Justice Parade. UNITY HAS COME TO DOTHAN! I've received numerous phone calls from people who were not able to be there because of previous engagements, funerals and the holiday. I sit here with tears in my eyes reflecting on Saturday's event. Publicly candidates came out and addressed the gathering of people, but privately a lot of things were going on. People were plotting while others were making...
Sheriff’s Department Makes Illegal Traffic Stop

"Trish Ervin knows what to expect she says." In an interview with Trish, she states that deputy Brock Cody of the Houston County Sheriff's Department can be seen stalking some member of the Ervin family at least once a week. She said that deputy Cody has made good on his threats against the Ervin Family. - Trish decided to put it to the test herself and what she expected happened! She tells a story using the side of her van...
Once again citizens are left to be victims

In a report and survey that was published 8/27/2010 by the Justice Department, Houston County Jail was ranked 4 in the nation for sexual victims. Once again our Sheriff denies these findings and stated that the Justice Department who he invited in Houston County Jail to conduct this survey is incorrect. He continued to state that the numbers he had did not match their numbers, there was only one of these crimes reported and therefore this is what he based...

As I sit here and contemplate on Hurricane Katrina, my reflection goes to me and Charlie Lynn riding down I10 every night for a week and a half. They wrote about us in the blackcommentator.com issue 151 stating that we ( ex- felons) were the first ones on the scene, the first ones to rescue and the first ones to feed. Two hours after the hurricane hit we were on the road riding and taking food that we had in our soup kitchen at Moma Tinas Mission...
